I never quite got abstract art. I would spend so much time trying to get reality right, that abstract seemed like a cheat. It wasn’t until photography became one of my tools that I realized that reality isn’t hard at all. Abstracting reality into something that is engaging – that’s hard.
But sometimes you can just find abstract art. I had just finished dinner when I noticed the pattern and colors left over on my dinner plate (I think that we had beets that night.) I took the plate into the studio and took a picture of it (okay, I took lots of pictures of it.) If nothing else, that got me out of helping with the dishes that night.
Does this image work? I have no idea. When I see it, I still see the leftovers from my dinner. What did you see before you read what it was?
I think it works quite well actually. I do fractal art so I have developed an appreciation for abstract designs. The rules of composition still apply (probably moreso) – the rule of thirds, good tonal balance, contrast, leading lines, etc. You have interesting shapes and textures in this image – I thought it was burned plastic or film at first that was colorized in post processing. didn’t even occur to me that it might be the natural palette 🙂
some kind of microscopic slide was my guess
